Is Campus Tasker safe?

Yes. All students verify their identity through .edu email addresses. Payments are held in secure escrow until the job is completed. We have safety guidelines and a dispute resolution process.

Click "Post a Job" from any page, fill in the job title, category, description, budget, and location. It takes under 3 minutes. Your job will immediately be visible to nearby students who can apply.

Can I search for a specific student instead of posting a job?

Yes. Visit "Browse Students" and filter by skill, major, location, hourly rate, and rating. You can view full profiles and message students directly to invite them to your job.

How do I know which student to hire?

Each student profile shows their school, major, verified skills, past reviews, completed job count, response time, and portfolio. You can also chat with students before committing to a hire.

Can I hire more than one student for the same job?

Yes. If your job requires multiple people — for example, a larger event or moving day — you can accept multiple applicants for the same posting.

What if I need the job done urgently?

When posting a job, you can mark it as "Urgent." This highlights your posting and notifies nearby students immediately, helping you get faster responses.

Can I post remote jobs or only in-person?

Both. When creating a job post, you can specify whether the work is remote, in-person, or either. Remote jobs have access to a wider pool of students across the country.

Who can sign up as a student?

Any currently enrolled student at an accredited university or college with a valid school email address (.edu or institutional domain). You must be at least 18 years old to use the payment features.

How do I verify my school email?

During signup, you will be asked to enter your school email. We will send you a verification link. Once confirmed, your profile receives the "School Verified" badge — which significantly increases your chance of getting hired.

How do I get my first job on Campus Tasker?

Complete your profile fully, including a photo, bio, clear skills, and an hourly rate. Browse the local job feed and apply quickly with a tailored pitch. Students with complete profiles and fast response times get hired much more often.

Can I set my own rates?

Yes, entirely. You set your hourly rate or a fixed price on your profile, and you can submit a custom quote when applying to any job. Whatever you quote is exactly what you receive — Campus Tasker does not deduct anything from your payout.

Can I work remotely, or only local in-person jobs?

You can apply to both. On your profile, you can indicate that you are available for remote work, which opens up jobs from anywhere in the country.

What happens to my profile after I graduate?

You can keep your profile active as an alumni for a grace period of 6 months after graduation. After that, your account type may be transitioned. We will notify you in advance.

Am I responsible for my own taxes?

Yes. Students on Campus Tasker are independent contractors. You are not an employee of Campus Tasker or of any customer who hires you. Campus Tasker does not withhold taxes, issue W-2 forms, or file taxes on your behalf. You are solely responsible for tracking your earnings, reporting income to the IRS and any applicable state/local tax authorities, and paying any taxes owed — including self-employment tax if applicable. If you earn over $600 in a calendar year, you may receive a 1099 form. We strongly recommend consulting a licensed tax professional for advice specific to your situation.

Do students pay any fees?

No — students keep 100% of every dollar they earn. We never deduct a platform fee, commission, or subscription from a student's payout. If a student quotes $80 for a job, they receive $80 in full. Period.

How does the 8% service fee work?

Customers pay an 8% service fee on top of the agreed job price, with a minimum of $2.50 per transaction. For example, if a student quotes $100, the customer pays $108 (plus applicable local tax). On smaller jobs under $32, the $2.50 minimum applies instead of 8%. We want to be upfront: this fee is literally what keeps the lights on. After payment processing costs, our margins are razor-thin. We are not here to get rich — we built Campus Tasker to help students earn real money and build their careers. Every dollar of this fee goes directly toward keeping the platform running, safe, and free for students.

Is there any tax on top of that?

Depending on your state or city, local sales or services tax may apply and will be calculated and shown at checkout before you pay. Tax is only added where legally required. Important: students on Campus Tasker are independent contractors, not employees. Campus Tasker does not withhold income tax, and is not responsible for filing, reporting, or paying any taxes on behalf of students. Students are solely responsible for reporting their own earnings and meeting all federal, state, and local tax obligations. We strongly recommend consulting a tax professional.

Can you show me a full pricing example?

Sure. A student quotes $80 for a product photography session. The customer sees: Job price $80 + Service fee $6.40 (8%) + Est. tax $6.91 (8% in NY) = Total $93.31. The student receives $80. Campus Tasker keeps $6.40. Tax is remitted to the state.

How does the payment escrow work?

When a customer hires a student, they pay the full amount (including service fee and tax) into our Stripe-powered escrow system. The funds are held securely and only released to the student once the customer confirms the work is complete. Students never chase invoices or worry about being paid.

When and how do students get paid?

Once the customer releases payment after approving the completed work, funds are transferred to the student's connected bank account within 2–5 business days. Students connect their bank account once during signup — no extra steps needed after that.

What payment methods are accepted?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay. All payments are processed securely through Stripe — we never store your card details.

What if I need a refund?

If the work was not completed or not delivered as agreed, you can open a dispute before releasing payment and the funds stay in escrow. If payment has already been released, our dispute team reviews the case and may issue a full or partial refund. The service fee is non-refundable once a job is completed.

Are milestone payments available?

Yes. For larger or longer projects, you can split the job into milestones. Each milestone has its own escrow payment that is released independently once that phase is approved. This protects both the customer and the student on bigger engagements.

How does Campus Tasker verify students?

Every student must verify their institutional email address before their profile goes live. We also review profiles for completeness and authenticity. Optional identity verification and background check badges are available for additional trust.

What if I suspect a fake profile or scam?

Report the user immediately using the "Report" button on any profile or job posting. Our trust and safety team reviews all reports within 24 hours and takes action including suspension or permanent bans.

Is it safe to meet a student in person?

We recommend meeting in a public place for your first interaction — a campus library, coffee shop, or co-working space. Always keep communication within Campus Tasker messaging and never pay outside the platform.

What types of jobs are not allowed?

Campus Tasker strictly prohibits illegal activities, adult content, academic dishonesty (writing essays, exam help), jobs requiring unlicensed professional services, and any attempt to transact outside the platform. Violations result in immediate account suspension.

How are disputes resolved?

Either party can open a dispute before payment is released. Our team reviews all submitted evidence including messages, deliverables, and job agreements. Most disputes are resolved within 3–5 business days. We aim for fair outcomes for both parties.
